when i took his hair off i discovered a zillion holes which i wasnt expecting at all, it seemed to take forever to do the rooting part as the afro hair was a nightmare to thread through the needle, i purposly did it thick as last time those braids shrunk down to nothing and i needed it to be a bit more substantial this time .....
i was quite worried when the hair was done !....
but then on the busiest day ever, i had a quick few minutes before i did the shopping and stupidly thought it would be a good idea to cut the hair nearer to the length i wanted....big mistake ! ...
i needed the longer length of the hair to make the dreads and then i should have cut them to length afterward but now id made life difficult as it was really fiddly and not going to plan, i wanted to give up but what was i to do with all that hair, so there was nothing for it but to carry on ......
then by now in a complete panick about all the hours id put in came the moment of truth , i had to "relax" the hair, i had expected it to shrink down loads, it did shrink but not at all how i expected, id done a centre part but this caleb has such a low hairline at the front all i could see was that he now looked like a caveman , i put that bunch in so now at least you can see his face.....so its been alot of hard work and i still dont think i like the result, in theory the dreads are quite nice theres just too many of them ! and they dont go down to the ends of the hair which they would of if id left the hair long then cut them.....apologies for the red dot on one of the eyes, ive only noticed it since i put these photos on the computer, all i can think is it must be a speck of my red nail varnish !.....
i had to brighten all these photos as its been that gloomy here today but i had to brighten that much that you cant even see the dress ! and its kind of made her hair look more matted and scruffy than it really is ......
as an after thought a rare pic of my hubby rich with hair matching my new reroot, hes just come off a water ride at a theme park, im not sure he'll be happy if he knows this photo here !
Well, if I was you Sarah I would give myself a pat on the back! I think Mel B (!) looks really fab and I am positive if you wanted to part with old Mel somebody would cut their right arm off to buy her!
ReplyDeleteWell done!!
thanks ronny, im not sure about a pat on the back, i feel like i should be locked up for attempting another ethnic reroot !....sarah x
DeleteWhat an incredible labour of love, and had to admit laughing at the different stages and imagining your horror at what you thought you might have done...but saying that she has turned out fabulous - very different and unique and I do think she looks like a girl so well done! I can't imagine what it must have been like doing all that work.
ReplyDeletei was a girl on a mission and when im on a mission theres no stopping me ! i wish before id started, that instead of jumping straight in id thought it through a bit better....the face may look a bit weird as after being submerged in water she turned white, so i rubbed oil on her to bring her colour back...maybe cooking oil wasnt the best thing to use but it was all i had !....sarah x
DeleteSarah, this is amazing! You mentioned to me that you made a mess of it but none whatsoever! The simple fact that you were able to make it look like this AFTER you cut it is a miracle. And all that hair.... what a hell of a job. I find the final result smashing, she looks like one of the girls in my school group; they really do have this much hair sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI also think the face is very sweet and the hairdo you made underlines that. A beautiful result! love, Fanny
im glad you like it fanny...im still not so sure ! but WHY did i decide to cut the hair first....i wish i could go back in time .....
DeleteI absolutely love the result. This Sasha is such a cute girl that I would integrate her in my collection :-). She really looks fabulous and this statement is sincere! Great job Sarah, there is no doubt that what came out is unique! Liss xx
ReplyDeletethankyou liss !....i do hope your parcel arrives soon...sarah x
DeleteThe first photo made me laugh it looked one of those singer, diana ross etc when they wear those great big wigs,,I could just imagine your girl there singing " I'm in the middle of a chain raction..."
ReplyDeleteBut what an amzing amount of work and well done you for not giving up and leaving her to peak out from behind all that fuzz.
The end result is so pretty, love that first photo when you have finished, she look so nice.
I'm sure she'll be starring on your clothes postings..unless you accepted an offer on her, I'm sure there will be people out there after her!
Those idea's you have when you are dropping off to sleep come out perfect...keep dreaming....
Dee x
thanks dee...but i dont think im gonna act on any more of those just before sleep ideas ....i could never sell her so maybe she will model for me or just stand neglected gathering dust like all the others (lol)...sarah x
DeleteShe's wonderful Sarah ... can't begin to imagine the panic though when you cut her hair!! Great to see all the different stages .. you must have the patience of a saint :) Cathy x
ReplyDeleteyes i suppose lots of patience but all the while it helps to block out how rubbish life can be !...glad you liked seeing all the stages of panick (lol)...sarah x
DeleteSarah she is fab, well done you! Love Steve xxx
ReplyDeletesteve, i really dont think shes fab but glad you like her !....sarah x
DeleteQuote, 'I was quite worried....when all the hair was finally re-rooted!'
ReplyDeleteWorried! I would have had a heart attack from the shock of seeing SO much hair! Wouldn't have known where to begin to start on the next stage....BUT the results are nothing short of an amazing Work of Art in our Sasha World.
Congratulations on taking the plunge and sticking at it in spite of realising the odd mistake of triming the hair first instead of at the end. (You'll know that now for the next time!!!!!)
Looking forward to seeing her now earn her keep on your modelling line-up!
now you know kendal that i wasnt exagerating when i said it wasnt going to plan....im sure she'll grow on me, just hasnt yet !....sarah x
DeletePS. Thanks for adding the photo of Rich that you promised me!
ReplyDeleteEspecially love the last photo of her (the one directly above the one of your husband.)
Well, I think you made a really wonderful job of this! She is a really beautiful girl with hair to die for! A triumph, I would say! Is there no end to your talents, Sarah??? Love the pictures. I am sure your husband will be delighted to discover that he ispired you!!! xxx Karin
ReplyDeletethankyou karin....hubbys hair took alot longer to do than this, then took about 2 years for it to look passable, this is his second lot of dreads, the first he got bored of and after they were gone decided he wanted them back, so around 10 or so years ago i put them back for him....still unsure of my girl though...sarah x
DeleteShe looks fantastic now, what a relief for you! I have figured out the blog thing now and am happy to be a friend of your lovely site, Janet xx
