Ive always really liked cloth dolls, i seem to have gathered rather alot in recent years !.....the girl sitting next to the hollie hobbie doll to the right is called amy (her shop name) and ive had her since i was about 7, hence the dirty face and her hair hanging on by a thread, she was so special as we didnt have many new from the shop things when we were small but i got her brand new and chose her from a tiny old fashioned toy shop where the man had to climb up a ladder to get her off the shelf....
I also like other cloth dolls like deans and lenci and quite often look on ebay and just dream, but then as a complete suprise a dear friend bought me an amazing pressie.....a lenci doll !
shes from the 1940s and is just pristine , her clothes look like they could have been made yesterday, im not sure yet how to display her as ive got no glass for her to be behind ....
The detail of her clothes is amazing, even going to the trouble to decorate the back of the dress and bonnet...
Sarah ! You must be reading my mind!! I just published a blog on doll lovers and then came to look at the other blogs, to see that you have put on pictures of your other dolls!!
ReplyDeleteThey all look lovely.
I too love cloth dolls. My one wish for my 7th Christmas was a Raggedy Ann. One did come to live with me that year. I still have her, she makes Amy look quite pristine. Currently I am drawn to the Kathe Kruse Waldorf dolls (her antique dolls aren't bad either lol). When I saw Cloth Kitty, I had to make one for my daughter and then I added a Kit for my son ("my cloth dolly Thomas" he says). And now, I amy have to start looking at Lencis, as I'm quite in love with yours...
ReplyDeleteGreat post Sarah and I love your Lenci doll she is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI've got a rag doll kind of similar to yours, posted a picture of her on my blog today, inspired by both you and Dee.
ooh julie...dont start looking at lencis, it could cause serious damage to your bank balance ! (lol)....i like the older kathe kruse dolls too , and terri lee dolls and the bisque ? early nancy ann story book dolls....but i know never to buy , as i know i can never just settle with one of anything !...ill have to have a look at raggedy ann as i dont know who she is...maybe your in america and we didnt have them in the uk ?.....sarah x
ReplyDeleteYes, she (and I) is American. Really nothing to special, and I'm not sure why I was so drawn to her, but I was (and still am).
