ReplyDeleteLuckily I managed to buy ONE of the THREE that I wanted (the other two were already sold) so not so much disappointment as the last time when I didn't manage to get even one!
Congratulations and well done again Sarah. You've got this Sasha dressmaking down to a perfect 'T'!
My Sasha girls keep telling me that they just love wearing your outfits.

thankyou Sharon, I love looking at your blog too and have wondered how you take the lovely pics where the doll is in sharp focus but the background is blurred ?, it would be quite good for me sometimes to blur out the plant pots in the background.....if its too technical im sure I wont be able to do it ...lol...xxxxx
DeleteHi Sarah, thanks so much for reading my blog, I'm glad you like the photos. As for how I do them, well I use the 'macro' setting on my camera and just focus on the doll, and it automatically blurs the background. I have a Canon EOS1000D camera and the majority of my photos are taken with the 'normal' lens that came with it. I do have a special 'macro' lens too, but with that one I tend to use manual focus. With the majority of my photos, I just use the 'auto focus' setting along with the macro one. I reallyh don't do anything 'technical' because I am a technophobe when it comes to all those fancy things that my camera allegedly can do!!! I looked again at your photos and I think they are lovely, and in the very close up ones, I think you are achieving the same effect with the blurred background.
DeleteI hope this helps!

thanks for that Sharon, I never thought about using macro, ive got a canon EOS450D, so I think yours is posher than mine !...I always use the P setting so I can adjust the white balance between sunny and cloudy, im sure theres so much the camera can do but as you know the manual is like a book and theres so much to take in, I don't mind taking pics with nice greenery behind, its just the times when theres an unattractive pot in the background ,or the shed.....I shall try macro in the future !....thanks for your help ....sarah x
DeleteYou're very welcome Sarah.
DeleteAlso, when it comes to lightening/darkening the photos, have you tried 'Pic Monkey'? It's an online (free) photographic 'correction' site and it's really easy to use. I sometimes use it to sharpen my photos if I feel they need it. And because we have such bright light here a lot of the time, I sometimes use it for the balance. It might save you having to do the white balance...in fact I think it can also do it for you.
Here is a link to the website if you're interested:

All the basics are free and you can add frames or sepia/black and white or change the colours entirely if you want to have a play about with it. I have a lot of fun with it for my own family photos too!
