mmmm...part 2 !

well, ive still not got the correct colours of paint and i still dont have a paintbrush so ive had to use the liquid eye liner brush again but ive had another go , this time i sat in the garden with my glasses on so i could actually see what i was doing, the plan was brown eyes and they did start off kind of a yellowy brown but then i added grey and they kind of turned blue and ended up a bit too thick with paint  , i didnt want a blue eyed redhead as thats how he was in the beginning ....i took on everyones advice, as i had some very helpful comments and emails , so this time i tried to be not so bold , its an improvement but still not happy, mainly as theyve turned out blue ! ...as you look at the photo , the right eye turned out much better than the left , maybe this is why the gotz often have a droopy left eye as your kind of working back to front with the brush and its awkward ....anyway this is the best of a bad bunch of pics .....ill add more photos when i have another go !....

the next photo isnt too good a it looks an odd colour the ones above are more of a true likeness ....

  1. Funny, I prefer the eye on the left (his right). You made a little bit of a starburst that I really like. Also, it's a very nice shade of blue--a very realistic shade. I like how you did the lid lines and eyebrows.

  2. Sarah That's so much better ! He looks really good. They look more grey than blue in the photo's and much softer.
I wonder if you are right and that's why some Gotz eyes head for their cheek instead of their eye socket! lol It's like most things very hard to paint two thing's identical!
    Well done :) xx

    1. thanks dee...in real life it looks softer than the photos but the camera seems to highlight and exaggerate everything more xxx

  3. I think the thing is not to try to make them identical as no one has identical eyes...although it is tempting to want to do so. Reading the Sasha books, there are comments about how Sasha herself said the dolls should be asymmetrical and I think that probably applies to the features as well.

I like what you have done here very much. Interesting how the colour came out blue...

    1. thanks lorraine....not sure how they turned blue as like i said i started with a mustardish colour and added a bit of the eyebrow colour and then grey but it seems that if i made a colour and painted it on white paper it appeared totally different on the doll, the whites of the eyes are actually mustard with a tiny bit of white that on paper looked bright yellow ....i will be having another go but not sure when xxx

  4. I think you've done really well Sarah, I would be very happy with the colour and and the eye shape. But I know how critical you are of yourself so you may never be completely happy with him! But maybe it's time to say he's done! He looks really handsome to me! :) xxx you go girl!!!

  5. Personally I'm preferring your first brown coloured eyes as such. To me it was just his right eyebrow (the one on the left in the photo) that needed adjusting as it looked as if it had slipped off the browline bone.

(I'm thinking that the eye on the left would be the easier to paint as you have his face to rest your hand on. Is there a way that you can prop your hand up at the same level when tackling the other eye?)

    1. i wish kendal that these ones could be brown, these have turned out a bit more "trendon" looking and not so harsh but theyre the wrong colour !....i think confidence is needed and a firm brush stroke for the left eye , im sure it will come with practice , next time i may get it right !

  6. Sarah, I really liked your previous brown eyes very much and thought the brows may have needed a bit of tweaking. This version is nice too but I prefer the brown eyed version. As you can see, we all have our opinions! But I think it is all good in the long run because you are experimenting and will eventually find the right eyes for this special boy! Keep it up! :) xxx
