COURSE DOLL.....

This little girly arrived at my house yesterday, ive never really liked course dolls before but then i saw them in real life at dees chat n snap and i loved all of them.....
straight away i wanted to make her some new clothes, i had an idea of what sort of dress i want her to wear but it would take time to make a pattern and get it right so as i needed instant clothes, so  i made a rather badly made but effective outfit ....
i first made the shoes out of very thin suede, i couldnt use proper leather as it involved a back seam and my machine wouldnt cope with that thickness of leather, this is the 3rd pattern i made, they fit well but i think the upper could be a bit deeper ...
then i made the top, ive never sewn knits before so found it a bit odd, i didnt make a pattern, i just ,measured her body across and then measured the length i wanted it to be, then cut 2 rectangles, then i cut 2 rectangles for the sleeves, sewed it all together and added a band for the neck but id forgotten id have to get it on and had to cut up the back and add popper closure, having to do this has made it more fitted than i wanted ...
then a simple gathered skirt, i wish the jumper was shorter so you could see more skirt, i didnt over stitch anything, i left raw edges everywhere which completely goes against my ocd when it comes to sewing ...
i did make her a beanie hat but decided a girl of her era wouldnt have worn one so made a beret instead ...
lastly just to break up the sameness of colour of the beret and jumper, i cut a length of wool fabric for a make do scarf ....
so as ive explained all very bodged together !

ive only got a sasha sized doll stand which doesnt work for her but its all ive got to enable her to stand, so shes stood at an odd angle......i then remembered i have a perfect sized rocking chair ...apologies for the rather green patio but inside my house is just too dark for photos ....

  3. This is such a beautiful doll Sarah and the outfit really suits her- however quickly you made it ! I am very envious and after seeing her I am tempted to make a 'soft sculptured doll' & never having made one before it will be an interesting challenge. love from Wendy - Christchurch

  5. Gosh! I see that your wish to own a Course Doll came true so very quickly!
She is really gorgeous. I well remember meeting and photographing her at the CnS. She was in the top four that I liked the best there.Very, very lucky you! That's your 'Me-to-Me' Christmas present sorted!

I'm loving this outfit that you made her and don't think that her jumper is too tight at all. It's just perfect for living in this day and age and I can well see you being asked to make some more for other Course Doll owners.

Another string added to your never ending superb Sasha sewing and designing bow.

I think the outfit is perfect for her and you'd never know that it's too tight, I'm sure she's very comfy in it to be honest. I do like her lovely face and pretty hair style too.....I'm glad you were able to get this girl, I hope she has brought a smile to your face :) You deserve it :)
    Big hugs Sharon xxxx

    1. well i know its too tight ! :).....i made another today, done again just by cutting out vague shapes but i wasnt as lucky this time, its huge , the sleeves are good but not the neck or the body, so looks like she'll have to stay in her rather snug jumper ....
