VERSATILE BLOGGER FROM SHARON

The rules of this award are: choose 15 bloggers to pass this award on to, and tell the award giving blogger 7 things about yourself.
I don't have anyone to pass it on to and im not really sure I have 7 interesting things to say about myself !!

1.....I only started to sew for sasha to show my mum I could do it as she did laugh out loud at the idea when I told her my plan, id always collected vintage fabrics and she just remembered me trying to make myself clothes as a teenager, always without a pattern and always ending in disaster, so I was happy to prove her wrong !

2.....when I was little (younger than 10) all I wanted was to have pierced ears but I was never allowed, I was quite an inventive child so would spend hours in the garage fashioning earings out of wire that I would prise out of cables, no one was fooled by these hoop earrings that I used to dig in my ears and try to convince people they were pierced...so I decided if they looked like studs people would believe they were pierced, so I carefully made plastic looking backs from the rubber cable , added wire for a post and then glued this to the back of my ear, then for the front and I needed jewels, my mum had a Perspex jewellery box next to her bed full of my great grandmas jewellery, this was just what I needed, I carefully went about removing the precious stones out of all of the rings, to then glue to the front of my ears ....I was over the moon as my friends mum believed I now had pierced ears (she probably didn't believe it for a minute )....so I used to glue different stones on every day....now I have inherited all the stoneless rings ....

3....I got my love of all things vintage from when I was really small, the thrill of queing up at 2pm on a Saturday waiting for the doors of the jumble sale to open, I loved it, never knowing what I may find, when I got to about 13 my friends refused to hang round with me due to my clothes....im not sure "vintage" existed in the early 80s ,they were just "granny" clothes as far as my friends were concerned....

4.....ive never seen the film grease....when it came out I wanted to see it SO much but mum deemed it rubbish, I looked at the posters and got clothes from the jumble so I could look like they did on the poster, the girls played it everyday in the playground, I had to play the part of frenchie ? which I must have done quite well as no one ever knew that I had actually never seen it and still haven't !...

5.....im not sure I was a very pleasant teenager and if someone told me to do something I wouldn't do it, around "0" level time at school when I was 15 /16 my art teacher got me a scholarship to go to art college, usually you had to be 17/18 with A  levels , this was the opportunity of a lifetime BUT being the know it all teenager that I was, turned it down , instead going on to train as a childrens nanny .....that's a huge regret in my life ...

6.....when I was 23 I met the most gorgeous blonde surfer lad from NZ , we worked together and when the manager found out we were together promptly sacked him, he left for Germany and a week later I had a postcard telling me where I should meet him in Germany to go grape picking, off I went thinking id be away for a couple of weeks, we stayed away for 9 months, living in a tiny tent that I think was designed for children to camp in the garden in,...it was the most amazing time, picking grapes and hitch hiking across Germany, then to Austria, Italy, all through Greece, Cyprus and lastly Israel where I worked picking flowers which was the worst job of my life ...

7....my favourite song of all time is sister sledge, "thinking of you"....considering my usual taste in music I shouldn't in theory like it at all but it reminds me of the best years of my life, 1984 and 1988 , it makes me both happy and sad and I love it !

hope ive not bored you all to tears as I couldn't think of anything too exciting to write xxxx

  1. Sarah, loved reading the little snip bits of your early life. Like you i had to wait till i was eighteen to have my ear peiced as my dad (being a policeman) thought it very gay, lol, little did he know then, lol. I have since made up that as you well know, lol. I have also added a couple of tatoo's to the tops of my arms (another pet hate of his).
Anyway, i just wanted to say you are one of my dearest friends and good friends stick together through thick and thin, lol xxxxxxx

    2. That's funny about the piercing Steve! My parents thought having pierced ears was 'common'!!! LOL I think men with pierced ears were thought to be like 'gypsies'.......David Essex was my hero when I was about 13 and he had a pierced ear and was part Romany, for me it was just wonderful ... ahhh those were the days!!!

    3. yes pierced ears and chewing gum were definiately "common" and in our house I think anything on ITV was common too (apart from coronation street )

    4. Loved David Essex when i was a boy Sharon, lol. My dad was so strict, even when i was working i couldn't wear the cloths i wanted to, as i lived under his roof (his words). If he was alive now he would have a fit with all my piercings, ears, nose and my eyebrow, lol xxxx

  2. Sarah this was really really interesting and not in the last big boring!!! Thanks so much for taking part!
You've done some great things and I laughed out loud at you prising the stones from your mums jewellery to make earrings with. I'm sure she was incredibly impressed...NOT!!! I was the same, wanting my ears pierced but my parents wouldn't let me so one day I just went upstairs and finding a rusty needle on the windowsill of the bathroom, just pierced one and forced an old earring through the hole. My mum went berserk and told me to go and do the other one!!!! You can imagine they went incredibly septic but I managed to keep the holes to this day!!! Which is more than can be said for the one I had in my belly button.....I repierced that a few times myself but each time it just closed up!!!!!
I also loved hearing about your romance across europe and beyond, so lovely!
And lastly, you really did prove your mum wrong with your sewing ability, I bet she was mega proud of you when she saw just how beautifully you could sew things for Sasha!!!!
As for jumble sales, my nan was a big jumble sale fan and I used to go with her regularly. She got me some great things to wear! I had a pair of trousers that you'd have loved, they were flares in lime green with big white daisies all over them.....I loved them but my mum wasn't over keen I have to say!! Oh those were the days, I don't think people have jumble sales much these days, do they?
    Big hugs, Sharon xx

  4. Sarah it is lovely to read seven things about you, you have had such an interesting journey in life so far!! What a fatastic thing to do go off travelling round Germany etc
And when we are young we always make the wrong discission! I used to make my own clothes without patterns and I was going to be given the chance to go to the London school of embroidery but said No I wanted to go and earn some money!!! If only I had gone..... but then my life would have taken a different path and I love the path it's taken so far !
It was wonder and very interesting to read of your adventurous life!!
    Dee xx
Ps I was 24 and a mother before I got my ears pierced and thats only because my 13 year old sister went first!!!

    1. wow that would have been amazing to have gone to the embroidery school BUT as you say you like the way your life has gone, in my case ive made HUGE wrong decisions and wish I could go back in time to change it all but as I cant do that I just have to make the best of things...its odd though as I used to be quite adventurous but now I get in a panick just going out in the car ! xxx

  6. Gosh Sarah! 'You little Devil, '

I'm now seeing you in 'a completely different light' ......no longer the 'meek and mild' and 'playing by the rules!' .......BUT even more so as one of my MOST wonderful and valued Sasha friends who never lets a full week go by without one of her cheerful and delightfully 'chatty' phone calls......(as if she hasn't enough on her plate without me adding to it.)
May God bless you for me.
