BACK TO SASHA .....

I took so many photos today of my dolls, it was too dull in the house so i was taking them individually into the garden but it kept starting to rain, ive only now viewed the photos on the computer and realised they are far too gloomy to put on the blog, these are ok but youve seen all these girls before !......(early gotz , mostly waifs).....I really should to be putting their winter woolies on but i just havent yet had the time  as its been rather hectic !

MORE......on post below

Dee, how odd that we should think of doing this on the same day ! and lorraine i love that doll you have.....i dont seem to be able to leave comments on either of your blogs at the minute....so apologies !......
I thought id add a photo of my first rag doll that probably started all this off, it sounds like a bit of a sob story but when i was small our house wasnt a very happy house , there was literally no money and i never invited friends round because i think i was scared that they would find out what it was like living in our house. i got this doll when i was quite little (she was as big as me when i got her but esme is tall so ive no idea how old i was) i came in for a birthday tea and she was sat at the table (mum had made her) and she was my only guest for the tea and in the middle of the table was a snow cake which literally was snow in a big glass trifle dish with candles in, there probably was a real cake too but i dont remember that but i do remember i thought it was the best birthday ever and ive treasured this doll ever since (but i have lost her boots ).....its strange that i should collect so many things from this era and its such a big part of my life when at the time it wasnt very nice ...maybe all this im going through is a second childhood but happier this time round !......

Photobucket

While i had the camera esme wanted me to take a photo to show what she made today, i let her loose with my old sewing machine and with a bit of help (i did the beak and sewed it closed)... i think she did really well.......

OTHER DOLLS.....

Ive always really liked cloth dolls, i seem to have gathered rather alot in recent years !.....the girl sitting next to the hollie hobbie doll to the right is called amy (her shop name) and ive had her since i was about 7, hence the dirty face and her hair hanging on by a thread, she was so special as we didnt have many new from the shop things when we were small but i got her brand new and chose her from a tiny old fashioned toy shop where the man had to climb up a ladder to get her off the shelf....

Photobucket

I also like other cloth dolls like deans and lenci and quite often look on ebay and just dream, but then as a complete suprise a dear friend bought me an amazing pressie.....a lenci doll !

Photobucket

shes from the 1940s and is just pristine , her clothes look like they could have been made yesterday, im not sure yet how to display her as ive got no glass for her to be behind ....

Photobucket

The detail of her clothes is amazing, even going to the trouble to decorate the back of the dress and bonnet...

PALE FACES....

I must apologise for the lack of photos this past week but it just hasnt stopped raining and its been far too dark inside for photos but i managed to take these today inbetween showers.....

These 3 girls all have pale skin and i love them all !....this first sweet girl unfortunately has no eyebrows, there is absolutely no trace of them so maybe someone forgot to paint them on, i love her dark hair against her pale skin...

Photobucket

I cant work out this next girl, i know gotz made small and large head dolls but did they make medium ? as her head looks alot bigger than the girls above but put her next to a true large head and it looks small....maybe its because shes got quite a wide face and it gives the illusion of her head being big....

Photobucket

I never realised until today that this girl has a scratch on her face, shes a bit of a waif as shes a bit caved...she was a lovely ebay suprise as i bought her from a bad picture from a lovely seller and i was over the moon when she arrived.....

A REPAINT, HELP NEEDED and A MYSTERY !

I would love an early redhead girl but i doubt unless i win the lottery that i will ever have one !, this girl has been rerooted by Bettina and has a repro outfit by Rosie Bloom and her eyes have been beautifully repainted by Shelly. I dont know if she is a one off or there maybe more of these girls around, there is a lady in america who has one on her blog, (without repainted eyes) so i dont know if this girl was once hers or maybe she is unique ?

Even more than a redhead girl, i would like an early redhead boy , so quite a few years ago i decided to buy an 80s redhead and repaint his eyes. He was a bit of a disaster from the start, i saw him while scanning ebay in america late one night, there were minutes to go on the auction, he was extremely cheap with no bids, the description was good so i bidded and won, i realised the next day why there were no bids as the sellers feedback was the worst id ever seen, pages of red marks all saying "avoid". I was pleased that he actually did arrive but he was in pieces, i think he must have been placed together for the photos, as he was laid down, i contacted the seller with no response , paypal got no reply either, so i got refunded in full by paypal and ebay gave me a £10 voucher to say sorry for the inconvenience (not sure things like that still happen )...i got to keep the doll so i set about repainting, i thought this would be quite straightforward but soon realised it wasnt and it felt like an impossible task, over the years he has had lots of different eyes but ive never been happy with any of them, his latest look is passable at a glance BUT where i have removed the acrylic so many times it has left a slight dark look to the eye sockets and i cant get it off. This only shows slightly in natural light but i know its there and its gonna bug me, I dont want to remove the eyes again without knowing how to get rid of these marks...so any help would be welcome ! maybe the paint is engrained in the vinyl and will never come off ? i purposly included a photo that makes it look worse than it is, so you can see what im talking about as with a normal sunny camera setting it didnt really show up.....(this photo has also made the eyepaint look slightly darker than it really is)

Photobucket

This next girl is my "mystery girl" mainly because of her lack of eyes....the jury seems to be out on why this is, one opinion was that someone had removed them and not repainted them back on, another is that this is the print from the factory, its the wrong colour for a blonde and the mistake was noted and the hand finishing was never done. Next is her hair, she has a near full centre part but stops just short of the bottom, did the person doing the hair realise that her eyes hadnt been done, stop the rooting and put her in the reject pile ?...shes strung with striped elastic that looks to be original and shes got lots of sand in her joints as if shes not been played with.....i will get round one day to reglueing the hem of her dress !

NO NAVELS......

I dont know if i should be drawing more attention to the events of last weekend but i feel i should say that the storm thankfully has passed, we have spoken on the phone and the air is now clear and now just want to get on with what we enjoy doing....(no more comments please as i dont think my nerves can take it !).......
i didnt plan to sew in december as there is always far too much to do and had planned to photograph some of my dolls instead to keep the blog interesting but i have decided to bring this forward and have started with the no navels (on a very cloudy day !)......my dolls arent going to provide the "eye candy" of steves dolls but hopefully you will still enjoy seeing them.......

This 1969 girl is my newest addition, as you can see her hair has been cut but you cant see that her body is caved to one side maybe from a doll stand, its not really causing any problems so i decided to leave it as it is, i was so pleased i took the risk on this ebay waif....

A 1970 girl this time with lovely soft long hair, i put her hair back in an alice band as there was so much of it, it kind of swamped her delicate face

Photobucket

Photobucket

This pretty girl is from 69 and her hair is totally different from the others, its layered and much silkier more like an english girls hair....

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ive said before that i think this 1970 girl looks like an angel, the lighting today (or lack of it) really doesnt do her justice, her fringe has been cut but i think it suits her being swept to the side...(looking at the photos again im not sure why shes looking so orange !)
